This past year has been an exciting time of rapid change. The Alliance for Higher Education is now located at 2602 Rutford Avenue in Richardson on the campus of The University of Texas at Dallas campus. Our technological capabilities are the best of what is available worldwide. If it is possible today, it can happen here.

You will see a change in the Spring 2001 Course Catalog in terms of credit, non-credit, and certification courses and programs. This semester credit courses are offered by Southern Methodist University, Texas Tech University, and the University of North Texas. The employed student may access these courses from his or her work site in their Green Network facility (formerly TAGER) by contacting their corporate coordinator for more details.

If you are interested in upgrading your work skills, either in the technology arena or in management and professional development, you can do this at your computer desktop. The Alliance for Higher Education has partnered with several content providers who have high quality courseware designed for self-paced or guided learning on-line, with CD-ROMs or videotapes. Hundreds of courses are available in short interactive modules that meet the needs of learners who are interested in applying what they learn to real-life scenarios.

Members also have access to the classrooms, meeting rooms, and origination and videotaping facilities in the Alliance’s new building. Our state-of-the-art distance learning center also includes a technology platform (television, Internet, fiber connections, streaming video, etc.) that can quickly and directly access worldwide corporate and academic locations. We will occupy this new facility in Spring 2001.

There is also a new player in the high performance internetworking arena called Internet2. The Alliance for Higher Education is in the center of this flurry of activity with the launch of the Alliance Internet2 GigaPoP. Internet2 will support new distance education activities and collaborative research. The Alliance is pleased to play a critical role in the deployment of this new network. . .a network that is essential for our economic development. Internet2 connects with high bandwidth networks all around the world with connections to national high-bandwidth networks in over 30 nations.
