Academic Challenges Require Collaborative Efforts Not since the creation of land-grant colleges in 1862 or the GI Bill of 1947 have events occurred which impact higher education as greatly as today's challenges: n growing concern about college costs n educating more students with shrinking dollars n
developing curricula to meet the demands of the 21st century n
improving access to higher education for traditional and nontraditional studentsHistorically, educational challenges have been met through separate and independent institutional efforts. The challenges facing
21st century higher education will demand collaboration and cooperation among colleges and universities. Consortial activities available through the Alliance for Higher Education provide many opportunities for
cooperation. Alliance academic members develop programs, share resources and combine their strengths to address common goals. Alliance Academic Services, guided by a VPAA council, coordinates
and administers ongoing programs to ensure that all Alliance academic members---two-year, four-year, public, private and research institutions---benefit from participation. |
