This past year has been an
exciting time of rapid change. The Alliance for
Higher Education is now located in the new
Center for Collaborative Learning, Research, and
Communications Technology at 2602 Rutford Avenue
in Richardson near the campus of The University
of Texas at Dallas. This facility houses
technological capabilities that are the best of
what is available worldwide.
Members also have access to the
classrooms, meeting rooms, and videoconferencing
facilities in the Alliance’s new building. Our
state-of-the-art distance learning center also
includes a technology platform (television,
Internet, fiber connections, streaming video,
etc.) that can quickly and directly access
worldwide corporate and academic locations.
There is also a new player in
the high performance internetworking arena
called Internet2. The Alliance for Higher
Education is in the center of this flurry of
activity with the launch of the Alliance
Internet2 GigaPoP. Internet2 will support new
distance education activities and collaborative
research. Current members of the Alliance
GigaPoP include Alcatel, Southern Methodist
University, Texas Christian University, The
University of Texas at Arlington, The University
of Texas at Dallas, and the University of North
Texas.
The Alliance is pleased to play
a major role in the transport of distance
education and research.
